Our Crane and Rigging Projects

Always Moving for Your Project Needs

Although it’s the core of our business, H. Brown, Inc. is more than just a crane service company in Eunice, LA. H. Brown’s hydraulic jacking systems allow us to move equipment in constrained areas with practically no weight limit. Our jack-and-slide systems get the job done in areas where cranes aren’t practical. And you can trust H. Brown to transport your business’ super heavy or over-dimensional loads. Our attention to detail extends from the planning and permitting of your job all the way through to its safe and timely execution.

We’re always doing something new. We’ll post some of our most interesting projects here. Come back often to see what we’ve been up to, or contact us to learn more!

TRANSPORT OF TRANSFORMER

We received a Transformer – 28’10” x 10’6” x 14’5” / 294,537 lbs.  H. Brown mobilized to rail spur. cut transformer loose, Jack and slid from railcar to Platform trailers, Hauled over the road 40 miles to a new Solar Farm being built in the area.

Obstacles we had to overcome were changing rail sidings after it was determined that our original siding was out of service by the local rail road. Original rail siding was 10 miles away from delivery site. New rail siding was now 40 miles away. Securing a permit on our original trailer configuration with 5 times as many bridges that were on our original route. Finally, was tree trimming that had to be coordinated prior to the move and approved by city and local utilities. We worked with local utilities, traffic signal and communications companies to make this move a success.

HEAVY LIFTING

Our year started off with a bang when a longtime customer of H. Brown, Inc., needed to prepare for a major plant expansion in Texas. The work involved a large lay down area being built (to serve as storage for the 25 oversize pieces currently in the way), several pieces of process equipment being carefully unloaded, several bullet tanks being set and a 60-foot diameter silo roof needing to be moved.

H Brown, Inc., supplied the 5 large cranes, a 24,000 pound extended reach forklift, 2 250-ton lowboys and a truck with steering dolly to get everything done safely and on budget.

Once the silo was built, H. Brown had to stand up the process equipment and install it inside the silo. The largest of the pieces was 12-feet-square by 50 feet long and weighed 50,000 pounds Rolling blocks were used to stand all the pieces up smoothly, then they were lifted over the 75-foot-high walls of the silo for installation. Once all seven pieces were set, H. Brown had to lift the silo roof again and set it on top of the walls to complete the job.

Rigging

$1.4 BILLION PROJECT

Being part of a $1.4 billion project is not unusual for the men of H. Brown, Inc.

That’s what happened this year. H. Brown, Inc., was called upon to do much of the complicated rigging at a new steel tubing manufacturing plant near Shreveport, LA.

The work involved relocating and setting HV switchgear, LV switchgear and dry transformers weighing anywhere from 6,000 to 24,000 lbs. Now, this may not sound like a big deal, but given the fact that most of this was done inside the building and every piece was designed to be lifted from overhead only, this was a complex project requiring careful planning and execution.

With little or no headroom and obstructions everywhere, each situation was a little different and needed a unique approach. H. Brown had to use just about all of the tools that were available to us. We used gantries, beam trolleys, several different size cranes, slide systems, mat jacks, air skates, trucks and even a 40,000 lb. reach lift to complete everything on time and on budget.

The customer was very satisfied and impressed that the men of H. Brown were able to overcome the many challenges that they faced with each situation throughout this Louisiana rigging project.
